New DGNB members: Matthäi Bauunternehmen (building company)

Matthäi Bauunternehmen has been a member of DGNB, the German Association for Sustainable Construction, since August 2021. This represents a major milestone for the Company, because the Group is following a clear roadmap aiming for sustainability in its future planning. It all comes down to a specific policy with regard to the use of limited resources; energy efficiency; reduction of consumption and a process technology which is sparing of resources. In other words, looking after the environment. Matthäi is making major efforts to ensure that the Company achieves the German Government’s climate objectives within the outlined timeframes – and with plenty of time to spare. The Matthäi Group is very interested in actively contributing its knowledge and its experience as part of its membership role in the wake of its joining DGNB, simultaneously gaining the benefit of other member companies’ expert knowledge, with a joint agenda to work towards a sustainable future.

2019: CSR partnership with Werder Bremen

Werder Bremen and Matthäi do good together

The Matthäi Group is entering into a special partnership with SV Werder Bremen. Since the start of the 2019/20 season, we have officially been a CSR partner of the football club, which is popular throughout Germany. CSR stands for Corporate Social Responsibility, i.e. the special social responsibility of commercial enterprises to society. Under this seal, Matthäi will support all of SV Werder Bremen’s CSR activities in the future. The programme includes reduced price memberships for young families, childcare services and holiday programmes for children and infants, support for schools and nurseries and numerous measures for the integration and inclusion of socially disadvantaged people and people with health problems.

At the end of September, at the Bundesliga match against RB Leipzig, Werder President and Managing Director Dr Hubertus Hess-Grunewald presented the representative of Matthäi, Katarina Breves, with a special photo collage of the club as a welcome gift. Dr Hess-Grunewald is extremely happy with Matthäi as the club’s new CSR-Partner: “We are delighted about the partnership with Matthäi. Thanks to our CSR partner, we can not only implement our varied projects, but also develop them further in the future.” Katarina Breves is also convinced of the benefits of this partnership: “We are always pleased when we are able to provide assistance, both in our region and beyond. The projects that we will support in collaboration with Werder Bremen will benefit a lot of people who need help. We are happy to be making our contribution to this.”

2016: Der Hamburger Weg

The HSV Foundation for Hamburg’s Young Talent

Hamburg’s major football team (HSV) has been successfully running the Hamburger Weg initiative alongside business partners and the City of Hamburg since 2006. The former CSR initiative was transformed into a foundation in the summer of 2015 to support the city’s social projects and create an even greater sense of institutionalised social responsibility. The focus is on Hamburg’s young talent.

“We’ve put some serious thought into how we can make the Hamburger Weg initiative an essential part of HSV”, explains the Chairman of HSV Fußball AG, Dietmar Beiersdorfer. “We’ve decided to create the foundation, because we’re convinced the initiative has to be given an even greater role. Our aim is to further strengthen HSV’s culture of social responsibility in our home city”.

The work carried out by the foundation is centred around the next generation of talent in the metropolitan region of Hamburg. The encouragement and development of children and adolescents is absolutely essential to ensure a successful future. HSV’s foundation fosters the next generation of young talent for the city and nicely complements its performance centre for young sporting talent. The Hamburger Weg initiative aims to inspire, motivate, educate and support.

The initiative is built upon three pillars: education, welfare and sport. HSV draws on its own experience to create helpful added value in all areas. “We realise that HSV can make a difference in many walks of life. We’d like to make the most of this opportunity”, states the managing director of the foundation, Stefan Wagner.
